The Rose
THE ROSE is the second in a series of four paintings entitled THE FOUR SEASONS. It represents Summer in the series.
Roses are often used as a symbol of balance. They reflect beauty and offer promise, hope and new beginnings. To give a rose is an expression of one’s love.
In Greek Mythology, it was thought that the rose originated from the blood of Adonis, the God of plants and rebirth, whereas in the Middle Ages it was tradition to hang roses from the ceilings of meeting rooms. It was understood that everyone under the roses was sworn to secrecy.
The pink rose in particular, is given to symbolize gratitude, grace, admiration and joy. I watched this one as it turned from a bud into a beautiful bloom, in the gardens near my home and wanted to paint it to share with you.
THE ROSE can be bought as a Greetings Card or as a mounted print.
